Day 3: South Dakota to Denver

"On the road again...."
Epic evening spent traversing the rock formations of the Badlands yesterday. We got there just in time before the good light was out for the day and our excitement could barely be contained after 8 hours of driving. Eric, of course was so hyped up, decided he could climb any and all rock faces. That ended in a slip n' slide down a rock tower and many dirty scrapes and busted knees. We tried to warn him... ;) Needless to say, we have some great shots of our thrilled faces to have made it, officially, "out West."
We found a little place, Sunshine Inn, off Yelp that was quite the gem amidst all the establishments ready to host us in Wall, SD. The owner was the kindest man ever. We chatted about our route, our love for the Southwest, and how great the natural beauties the U.S. of A truly are. He gave us a discount, free coffee and sweet rolls in the morning before our next leg. God bless him. Can't say enough positive things about the guy.

So here we are driving among the rolling grasslands of South Dakota & Wyoming, trying to wrangle our little SUV from the grips of the wind and make our way down to Denver, CO.
Please make sure to stop at the damn Wall Drug if you're headed out this way. It's apparently famous, as they advertise for it even in Europe. And with the billboards we witnessed every 3 mi. along the 300+ mile stretch (kid you not). So I guess it deserves your attention. Especially with promises like "Free Water & Ice", or better yet, "5 cent Coffee and Homemade Donuts!" It's the epitome of a tourist trap; ok fine, we were caught too. Though with full admission, we did nab some personalized wooden pocket knives and a few over-priced, yet kick-ass, bumper stickers. Worth it.

So far, so good. Jammin' with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and a delicious breakfast sandwich (made with love from the nicest lady at the flying-J rest stop), we are ready for the ride. 7 hours to go!
